1. How do I send a letter?

You can login and use our letter editor to create your own, or upload any PDF file. You can write to anyone, or just for yourself.

2. How are the letters encrypted?

Your letters are encrypted and stored securely. HeartChain does not access or read them. Server-assisted encryption ensures that your letters stay private and safe.

3. Is my letter private?

Yes. Only a unique cryptographic “thumbprint” of your letter is stored on the blockchain. The actual contents of your letter, along with sender and recipient details, are kept completely private and encrypted. No one can read your letter without the encryption key.

4. What is blockchain and what is the purpose of decentralized love letters”?

A blockchain is a decentralized, tamper-proof ledger that records information across many independent computers instead of a single company-owned server. “Decentralized love letters” means your words are not controlled by any single corporation. Once written, the record of your letter cannot be altered, deleted, or taken away. Your letter exists beyond platforms and providers.

5. Can I write letters without sending them to anyone?

Yes! Recipients are optional. You can write just for yourself or leave a note to your future self. Your words stay safe and private on the blockchain.

6. How much does it cost to send a letter?

Sending a letter costs $19.99CAD per letter.

7. What happens when I send a letter?

First, your letter contents are encrypted, and a unique “thumbprint” of your letter is written to the blockchain. Then, we create a token (NFT) of your letter to prove ownership. Your encrypted letter contents are stored off-chain in a decentralized location (IPFS storage). If you specify a recipient, they will receive an email link to view the letter. If no recipient is provided, no email is sent.

8. What is an NFT? What do I do with my NFT?

The NFT represents proof of ownership of your letter’s unique thumbprint on the blockchain. It shows that your letter exists and belongs to you. By default, we securely store the NFT for you in our system wallet. If you prefer, you can also provide your own wallet address and take full custody of it. You can transfer your letter using the menu on the inbox page.

9. What will I receive with my purchase?

You will receive a special certificate with blockchain transaction details, a link to the IPFS storage location, and the encryption key. This allows you to decrypt and read your letter independently — even without using the HeartChain app.

10. How do I set up a wallet for my NFT?

Letter NFTs are compatible with any EVM-compatible wallet. We recommend using MetaMask!
